City History
Harris was first settled in 1870, was platted in 1873, and incorporated as a village on July 22, 1884. It had a hotel, a livery, several stores, and a station of the Northern Pacific Railroad. A post office was established in 1874. The City is named after Philip S. Harris, an officer of the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad Company, Mason, Knight Templar and Shriner (details below).
